the recitation of Chapter 9 of the Tao Te Ching by renowned Chinese medical expert Wu Mingjie

In Tao Te Ching · Chapter 9, Laozi reveals a timeless truth:

“To hold and fill it to overflowing is not as good as stopping in time.”

It is better to leave a vessel unfilled,

than to attempt to carry it when it is full.

If you keep feeling a point that has been sharpened,

the point cannot long preserve its sharpness.

When gold and jade fill the hall,

their possessor cannot keep them safe.

When wealth and honours lead to arrogancy,

this brings its evil on itself.

When the work is done,

and one's name is becoming distinguished,

to withdraw into obscurity is the way of Heaven.

When we push things to the extreme — success, wealth, pride —

we move away from harmony and invite decline.

The Dao teaches balance:

to know when to stop, when to rest, and when to let go.

“Accomplish, achieve, and then withdraw —

this is the Way of Heaven.”

True wisdom is not in endless pursuit,

but in understanding the rhythm of enough.

When we stop grasping, we find peace;

when we let go, life flows effortlessly.

🌿 Key themes in this chapter:

The art of moderation and humility

Why success demands retreat

Finding balance between effort and rest

✨ Know when to stop. Live with ease and harmony.
