Rainbow Tea - Drinking to Connect with the Heavens, and the Heavens Respond with a Rainbow

By Rebecca Emken, tui na and tea practitioner

On a clear, serene morning, sunlight shone from the heavens into a cup of tea- hitting the liquid perfectly and creating a brilliant rainbow.

The rainbow appeared while Dr. Wu was hosting a conference with his American students. Most attended remotely, and those near his center in Maynard Massachusetts (such as myself) attended in person.

We had a special guest! Qingzhen Chen, a disciple of Dr. Wu, attended remotely. Qingzhen has been promoting the three Ts of Fengyang Chinese Medicine (Tea, Tai Chi, and Tui Na) at the Zisutang clinic in Shenzhen, China.

Us American students and Qingzhen were delighted to see each other, and catch up on how their lives were going. It was late evening in Shenzhen, and Qingzhen was relaxing with a Qingdao beer that only cost $0.80 USD.

At the Wu Healing Center in Maynard Massachusetts, Dr. Wu and some of his students were drinking an herbal tea. One of the herbs was Huang Jing, known as food of the immortals. Huang Jing is drunk to promote longevity, and help one connect spiritually.

The herbal tea was served in small gong fu cups. The tea was a light brown, with a subtle white film on it once it settled.

Dr. Wu and us students drank an herbal tea to nurture our spiritual connection to the heavens, and the heavens replied. Sunlight shone down upon the cup, reflecting off the white film and creating a spectacular rainbow.

It was Maryna’s cup who received this colorful blessing, and me who noticed it. I took my cellphone out, and captured photos of the rainbow tea.

I didn’t edit the photos (except for cropping one of them). The colors and lighting are not edited, that’s the true sight that I photographed.

The rainbow was created by the angle of the sun, the position of the cup, and the sunlight reflecting off of the herbal tea’s white film.

Call it connecting with the heavens, call it science, call it whatever you’d like.

All I know is that we drank herbal tea to boost our health and our spirituality, and enjoyed our conference together.
